Detours, Drive-Thrus, and Diners.

Consistently sinning is like setting up detours that further you from your destination.

We’re all going somewhere.

As I drive down interstate 77 towards Charlotte, I can’t get the story of Jonah out of my head. The guy who had a destination…but no drive. At first, at least! Scared of the unknown and the potentially long journey ahead of him, Jonah fled from the destination/destiny that was upon his life.

While sometimes detours can be great learning experiences, they are nothing more than great distractions.

Have you ever felt like you were making poor decision after poor decision? Feeling far from where you need to be and worse, far from the Father? I sure have.

I’ve found myself getting off at exits because the journey was getting too hard and I was bored with it. Why am I not doing what I love or what I feel called to? You’ve thought that. At least 17 times.

As children’s church as this may seem to you, try and stay with me!

Fleeing from the journey that leads to your destination can be incredibly dangerous. Getting off of those exits can affect the outcome of your life. One detour leads to the next, then to the next, and so on. Soon, you’ve forgotten where you’re supposed to be and the heaviness of sin sets in.

GOOD NEWS! If you read the rest of the story, Jonah realizes his potential and walks right into it. He gets back on track.

Stay focused, continue the journey no matter how hard, don’t get distracted, and praise God every step of the way. *Side note- He’ll send the right people that will roadtrip with you.

(Jonah 1-4)
